Brasberries, bread, and cheese
Just a quick update to let you know that I served brasberries to real guests last weekend. I arranged the brasberries on a bed of rasberries and blueberries and set them next to bread and cheese and a bottle of wine. This was all placed on my island, which is the centerpiece of my living/dining/kitchen area. My guests brought a chocolate mousse cheesecake, and the brasberries matched splendidly. This shows the versatility of the brasberry, which can be served as an appetizer, along side the main course, or with or as dessert.
To prove that brasberries are delicious and that these were real guests, at the end of the evening there was exactly one brasberry left. The fact that all but one were eaten proves that they were delicious, and the fact that one was left proves that they were real guests since they were too polite to eat the last one.
In addition to the food value, brasberries provide some softer-side benefits to hosting guests:
- Brasberries are cute, yet elegant, so they provide some visual appeal.
- Brasberries are light-hearted and fun, so they say “Welcome to my home!” and set the tone for the evening.
- Brasberries are surprising and funny, so they are a conversation starter and ice breaker.
- Brasberries are healthy and easy-to-make, so they set the tone for the rest of dinner. (All my dinners are easy-to-make due to my limited cooking abilities.)
- Brasberries are a bit silly and a bit creative, so they tell the guests more about me.
- Since brasberries were introduced in my blog, they provide an entree for talking about blogging.
The power of the brasberry!
Have you tried making and serving brasberries? If so, please share your experience here and feel free to send me a picture!
I am wondering if we can make “brasberry” into a household word… What do you think?
I think we can make brasberries a household term. I want to host a brasberry party – Great idea!
Thanks, Alicia! Make sure to report back after you have your brasberry party!
The fact that all but one were eaten could also because they are your best friends and they really want to show their support and encouragement to you in order to be invited again. At the end, they think oh..my god, I have done my job. Leaving one there should be ok now. hahaha….just kidding. Sorry to all guests for putting the words into your mouths—I know you all like eat brasberry!
Qibin- You’re right. They are very close friends- almost like family- and the politeness was not because we aren’t close but because it was the first time we hosted them at our house. Good question on their motivations for eating all but one… so I guess you’ll have to try the brasberries yourself to decide if you like them!
When you do try them, please come back and write about it!
