New adventure...

After 15 great years at HP, I am taking on a new adventure in my career. I wasn’t looking for a job outside HP, but an interesting new challenge/opportunity appeared and after much thought I decided to go for it! I’m very excited about my new adventure! I’ll pop up in the industry in a few weeks and announce it then.

HP was my first job out of graduate school and has been an important part of my life, so leaving HP was a very difficult decision for me to make. My life is fairly simple- 16 years growing up in Batavia, New York; 10 years studying at MIT; and 15 years working at HP in California- and work is an important part of my life, so for me this a big life transition.

HP has been a great place for me to contribute and grow. HP provided me with great friends and colleagues who are like family to me. HP provided me with many great growth opportunities- I’ve had 6 different jobs in my 15 years at HP. HP gave me the chance to work with great partners and customers. HP is a great company and a great place to work and live. HP and its people will always have a special spot in my heart.

Below is the message I wrote to my past and present colleagues at HP.

Dear friends and colleagues,

I’d like to share the news that I am embarking on a new adventure in my career. As such, today will be my last day at HP. I joined HP right after graduate school, so perhaps you can imagine how difficult this decision was for me. I feel extremely fortunate to have had a great 15-year career at HP and I am proud to be a product of HP.

I have enjoyed every year of my 15 years at HP. HP Labs gave me the opportunity to grow as a researcher, research manager, and lab director. PSG gave me the opportunity to grow as an experience software business manager and chief technologist. I feel so very fortunate for all the opportunities that HP has given me, and I hope that HP feels that I have contributed back. Looking back and knowing what I know now, I would not change anything about my time at HP and I could not imagine a better place to have spent those years. I worked on so many great projects and products at HP, but what I am most grateful for is the opportunity to have worked with the great people at HP. Thank you!!!

A new opportunity has presented itself to me, and those of you who know me well know that I like a challenge. I will pop up in the industry in the next few weeks and I will announce my new job then. While I am leaving HP for a new opportunity, I would like to make it clear that I feel very positive about HP and I feel very confident about HP’s future. HP is a great place to contribute and grow.
